We all know that keeping yourself “Rugged, Yet Smooth” takes time and effort. Sure, you can roll out of bed and greet the world with your shaggy hair, wild beard, and natural musk, but you might not get the positive attention you’re after.

For even the most natural looks, a solid grooming routine is crucial – but what about those common, embarrassing problems bringing you down?

Here, my friends, are the solutions …

Dandruff

Dandruff really can eat away at your self-confidence, and sometimes it just doesn’t seem to go away.

Obviously, switching to an anti-dandruff shampoo goes without saying, but try to alternate every month: the skin on your scalp gets used to it pretty quick, reducing the power of the formula. Be sure to massage your scalp, too, to loosen any lurking dandruff.

Your diet can actually cause dandruff too, so try to eat foods containing B vitamins, zinc, and allicin (found in chopped onions and garlic). Cut down on the amount of sugar and dairy you consume, too.

Shaving Cuts

If you like to keep smooth and fresh, you’ll shave on a daily basis. This is fine in theory, but if you do it first thing in the morning, with the clock ticking against you, you’re likely to get the odd nip and cut.

First, maybe try shaving at night, or try to make more time for it in the morning, so you can exfoliate first. Use a scrub that removes build-up, for a closer shave (with less risk of cutting yourself); you should also invest in a cream or gel dedicated to limiting irritations and cut, preferably with aloe and glycerine as ingredients.

If you still manage to cut yourself, use a men’s lip balm to ease any around your mouth; this conditions the skin and stops bleeding.

Nose Hair

While we need nose hair to protect us from airborne bacteria, you don’t need so much of it that it’s poking out of your nostrils.

You shouldn’t pluck your nose hairs, as this can lead to germs getting inside the follicles leading to infections (not to mention, causing soreness!). Instead, buy a nose-hair trimmer, and use it every few weeks to keep your nostrils pristine. Tip your head back and lift the tip of your nose for a better view.

Unwanted Body Hair

Your back’s hairier than you’d like? Got a chest rug that resembles Austin Powers’?

If you want a permanent fix, go for laser treatment. This fries your hair roots, and is supposedly less painful than waxing, though it can be expensive.

Waxing’s faster and more affordable, but it can hurt. Like, a lot.

Still, if you can actually reach the area itself (your chest, upper arms, shoulders) you should be able to trim the hair back with a beard trimmer or clippers.

Pimples

We all want to avoid pimples, but how?

Wash your face twice a day with a mild cleanser and warm water: this removes dead skin cells, excess oil, and impurities. You should also cut right down on the amount of unhealthy, greasy foods you eat; focus more on fruit, veggies, and whole grains.

If you have a pimple here or there, leave it! Resist the temptation to pop them – this can lead to infection, scarring, and worse.

Try adding any of the above steps to your grooming routine, and you’ll see a spike in your confidence – be sure to keep with it!
